Jack Russell portrait in commission

Jack Russell portrait in commission

Recently finished: Pastel portrait of a Jack Russell in commission.
A portrait in pastel is perfect when painting a ‘jumpy’ furry coat. In this portrait I used multiple layers, ending with the most jumpy hairs. I always aim to suggest as much depth possible in a portrait, which doesn’t necessarily include lots of realism and details. That depends on the soft and hard edges (sharp and unsharp), resulting in an extra dimension. This could also count for a more abstract approach. It’s all about the right accents.

Wish to learn more on painting and drawing fur of dogs and cats? In my two books I tell, and show, all about it. In acrylics, oils, pastel, watercolor, pencil and charcoal. My 1st book is also in English, the 2nd one not. Both books show over 200 images and each six demo’s.
